About me

Practice philosophy:

"Cutting edge, state of art radiation therapy with a personalized, human touch”

I received my medical degree at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India in 1976. I went on to receive my residency training at Montefiore Hospital in New York between 1977 and 1980 in Radiation Oncology. I also did a fellowship in Brachytherapy at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. I am board certified by the American Board of Radiation Oncology. I was recruited from my previous position of Professor of Radiation Medicine at Ohio State University to be the Director of Brachytherapy Services for Northern California Kaiser Permanente in September 2006.

I am one of the world pioneers in brachytherapy and intraoperative radiation therapy. I am a past-President of the American Brachytherapy Society and as the Chair of its Clinical Research Committee I have been instrumental in formulating national guidelines for brachytherapy. I am the Founder Chair of Liver Microsphere Brachytherapy Working Group and a Founder Member of the International Society of Intraoperative Radiation Therapy. I am a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, Fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology, and have been named one of the Best Doctors in America for Brachytherapy. I serve as an advisor to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the International Atomic Energy Agency and as consultant to brachytherapy companies. I am the recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award from the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology and the Henschke Memorial Award from the American Brachytherapy Society. I have published over 200 scientific articles including textbooks in brachytherapy, book chapters, and the American Brachytherapy Society guidelines in brachytherapy. I have presented more than 300 abstracts and lectures in brachytherapy and intraoperative radiation therapy worldwide.

My medical interests include brachytherapy, gynecological and urological cancers. My extracurricular interests include photography and worldwide travel with my wife and two daughters.

An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
