Welcome to my Home Page
Let me tell you a bit about myself. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area when the Santa Clara Valley was a sleepy fruit-growing community. After high school I headed south to attend Pomona College and the UCLA School of Medicine, managing along the way to experience the practice of medicine in Switzerland, El Salvador, Micronesia and Rarotonga. A residency in Internal Medicine in San Francisco was followed by fellowships in Rheumatology and in Allergy/Immunology at the UC Davis Medical Center, with a bit of research on the side and a few months at the Royal Postgraduate Hospital in London.
I joined Kaiser Permanente in 1983 and was one of the original physicians to open the South Sacramento Medical Center in 1984. It’s been a wonderful fit for me, providing consulting work in both Rheumatology and Allergy but still giving me time to spend with my wife and 3 children (and dogs and horses and garden) and several outside interests. I love working with patients and staff, and I find the practice of medicine fascinating.
The Allergy Clinic at South Sacramento
Now I practice Allergy predominately, taking new patients in Rheumatology only occasionally. Our clinic provides consultations and treatment for all ages, and we help train Residents and Fellows at UC Davis Medical Center. My colleague, Dr. Gordon Garcia , our experienced nurses, medical assistants, skin tester and receptionist provide up-to-date advice and treatment in a professional and comfortable setting. We were one of the first clinics to implement HealthConnect, the computerized medical record program that provides us with secured information about your medical history, tests, medications and office visits, all in one place. It brings us cutting-edge information technology while ensuring the privacy of your medical record.
I like to create an atmosphere of comfort and trust so we can uncover the cause of allergy symptoms and involve you in deciding what treatment is best for you. So please share your questions and expectations during our visits.
If you are looking for information about allergies, try some of the excellent websites on this page. You may find some answers to your questions before you even visit our clinic.

If you think you have a MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY or go to the nearest hospital. DO NOT attempt to access emergency care through this web site. An emergency medical condition is a medical or psychiatric condition that manifests itself by acute symptoms of sufficient severity (including severe pain) such that you could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in any of the following: serious jeopardy to your health, serious impairment to your bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. An emergency medical condition is also "active labor," which means a labor when there is inadequate time for safe transfer to a Plan hospital (or designated hospital) before delivery or if a transfer poses a threat to the health of the member or unborn child.
